“She Of The Dancing Feet Sings” by Countee Cullen

The “She Of The Dancing Feet Sings” by Countee Cullen is a representation of a black girl who’s afraid to show people her real self and what she loves to do. A girl who’s just trying to show her passion for dancing and doesn’t want inequality to define her. Countee Cullen talks about “when the gusty rain winds beat”, makes me believe is the way of making this young black girl feel free of any judgement. Every thought that passes through her mind makes her think whether or not it will land her in heaven or hell. For an example, “The wistful angels down in hell will smile to see my face”. Her passion for dancing is like her heart from end to end. She wants to be in a perfect place so she can't feel or be judged. In conclusion, this was about a girl trying to be free and live her life. |

And how would I thrive in a perfect place Where dancing would be a sin, With not a man to love my face, Nor an arm to hold me in?" This stood out to me because shes scared to show would she really is she just wants to be free. My mashup is a art of girls dancing a different style then other people would usally do. I put up my favorite lines on the border of my drawing which says "
